Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Badminton is a new sport to the stadium with an emphasis on fun and enjoyment rather then a competitive nature.

There are two seasons Winter (April - September) and Summer (September - April) with the competition pausing for the school holiday periods. Teams comprise of 2 or 3 people playing games of doubles, with each team playing five sets per week.

Teams pay a $10 season nomination fee and then each player pays $6 per game. Competition draws and results are posted in the Western Advocate every week as part of their sponsorship agreement.

All games are played on Thursday nights.

Badminton is extremely popular in Asia with 15,000 spectators seen at finals of major badminton matches in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Badminton at the top level is an extremely physically demanding requiring strength endurance, muscular power, agility, speed endurance, anaerobic power and a capacity to accelerate / decelerate.

In Bathurst games can be serious but mostly everyone is out for fun and some fitness.
